England Squad game v Kent and the Southern Counties.

On Saturday 20th September 2008 the England Short Mat Bowling squad arrived in Swale Indoor Bowls Club to play Kent County Short Mat Bowling team & some neighbouring representatives. They were complemented on the Sunday with 30 players from the England U21 squad.

After many closely fought games the England squad showed their superiority with a decisive overall victory. There were of course some notable results for the home team with a few games being won by the home side; the England Manager Mr Barry Hedges commented that this was their hardest fought game that he had seen in the past 2 years and that Kent had achieved the highest point tally in individual games under his management. No greater compliment could be made to the home team and players.

Team talk

It was a superbly run weekend, with a highly competitive series of games. The venue was well lit, spacious and suited for such an event. It is hoped that the England squad will return again next year.

This was a great start to the indoor season for all concerned which we hope will yield dividends later for our players.

The Kent Chairman wanted to thank all the players for attending, the England players for travelling and a special thanks to the Committee members who ‘made it happen’ plus all the other miscellaneous individuals who helped make it work.
