Friends of Norfolk play
their annual match against Norfolk Over 60s at Swale Indoor Bowls Club on
Saturday 9th May 2009
The match consisted of pairs and triples on 8 mats over 6 session.
In the first session we just edged it 9-7.
The second session Norfolk made it all square winning 9-7, making the score
16-16.
The third session we nosed in front 10- 6, the score 26-22.
The fourth session we didn't do to well 6-10, the score 32-32. I think they
were getting hungry watching the other session eating their lunch.
In session five we went ahead 9-7, the score 41-39.
It was down to the last session where honours were even 8-8.
The final score was Friends of Norfolk 49 pts - 451 shots; Norfolk Over 60s 47
pts - 415shots.
I think every one had a great day with good bowling. The scores reflect how
good the games were and we had a good lunch, ham salad with new potatoes
followed by trifle.
Clash of Bowls Codes – Saturday 26
September 2009
On Saturday the 26th September a small team of 16 players from the KCSMBA played in a triangular bowling tournament. This was billed as a clash of the codes with all three codes (Indoor, Outdoor and Short Mat) taking part. The event was held at Stone Lodge Indoor Bowls Centre and Halls Outdoor Bowls Club. Kent fielded the following players:-
Frank Wiedeholz, Sue Smith, Derek Carpenter, Sam Murphy, Chris Philpott, Mat Dillon, Deb Tomlinson, Chris England, Sonia Watson, Irene Benton, Tony Horn, Pat Finis, Gary Cook, Tim Harwood, Alan Harwood and Jim Davey.
Jan Davey ran a promotional short mat to advertise our sport which was a huge success with many enquiries and potential new players taking a go. Alfie Spelman spent the day helping in an official umpiring capacity, which also helped promote our game. I would like to thank them for their hard efforts.
With regards the event itself; the Short Mat section did not fair too well, playing 16 games and winning 3. However, this event was more to showcase our game and sport and on this basis was a complete success. As the Short Mat co-ordinator of this triangular event I would like to thank our players, our supporters, Jim Davey for moving the 3 short mats too and from Dartford, Jan Davey for running our promotional mat, Alfie Spelman for his umpiring help and all the other organisers from Stone Lodge, as without their help the event could not have happened. I hope as a direct consequence of this event all the Kent bowling codes will benefit from this initial partnership and can help to grow our game now and into the future.
Many thanks
Tim Rycraft KCSMBA Chairman
