West Sussex v Kent 'B' - 24th March
2012
Kent 'B' won a close game away to West Sussex in the last match of the season.
Kent started off well winning 2 and drawing 1 mat. In the singles Frank
Davis, Chalk Village, was 11-10 up after 12 ends, then picked up 6 shots on the
last 3 ends, winning 17-10. In the pairs Barbara Buse, Hornhill and Ray Offord,
Snodland were 15-11 up after 13 ends, then dropped 4
shots on the last 2 ends, drawing 15-15. Maureen Staples, Ditton and Dave Kruse,
Burham, won 16-11.
Kent only won 1 mat in the second session. In the fours of John Bown,
Hornhill, Brian Rust, Harrietsham, Albert Walker, Eastling and Ray Sedge,
Snodland won 13-8.
Honours were even in the third session winning 2 mats each. Frank Davis
was going along nicely 15-10 up after 14 ends then dropped 4 shots on
the last end winning 15-14. In the pairs Maureen Staples and Dave Kruse
won easily 19-11.
Going into the last session it was very even but Kent never give
up winning 2 mats by 1 shot and drawing 1 mat. In the triples
Rita Manfield, Tunbury, Roy Piles, Eastling and Ray Ryder, Tunbury, were 5-10
down after 8 ends, then picked up 6 shots in the next 2 ends to be 11-10
up and then dropped 1 shot on the last end to draw 11-11. In the fours
Roy Toms, Balfour, Garry Cook, Malling, Danny Cosgree, Borden and Gavin Knight,
Borden, won 8-7 and John Bown, Brian Rust, Albert Walker and Ray Sedge
were trailing 6-10 after 7 ends, then picked up 5 shots on the last 2 ends to
win 11-10.
The final score was West Sussex 18 points (180 shots) Kent 'B' 22 Points (190
shots).
Kent “B” v West Sussex - Challenge Shield
Match -25th February 2012
Kent
“B” won the Shield back from the holders West Sussex, who had won the
shield last year
for the first time in 9 years.
This year it
was Kent’s turn to host the match. Their Manager Jean Armour-Milne brought
a strong team to Snodland loaded with Premier and “A” Team players,
where as Kent had 4 “A” Team players with the remaining members from the
“B” Team.
The match consisted of 4 sessions of triples on 6
mats.
In the first session Kent just shaded it winning
3 and drawing 1 mat.
The second session went better, Kent winning 4
mats.
At the halfway stage Kent were winning 15-9.
The third session went West Sussex way with Kent
only winning 2 mats.
Going into the
last session Kent were 19-17 in front, so Kent had to win 3 mats and West
Sussex 4 mats to win the match. Kent were excellent
winning 5 mats.
The final score was Kent “B” 29 Points (258
shots) West Sussex 19 points (211 shots).

Essex v Kent “B” - 28th January 2012
Kent “B” team had an emphatic win away to Essex.
When Kent “B” play Essex we play the
old system of singles and fours in the first and third sessions
and pairs and triples in the second and fourth sessions.
Kent started well winning 2 and drawing 1 mat in the first session.
In the singles Frank Davis (Chalk Village), carried on his excellent form from
the last match winning 19-6. In the fours John Bown (Hornhill), Pat Finnis
(Tovil), Alan Ellis (Tunbury) and Albert Walker (Eastling) won 11-6
and Jan Davey (Burham), Garry Cook (Malling), Keith Williams (Ryarsh) and Gavin
Knight (Borden) were 8-4 up after 7 ends, then dropped 4 shots in the
last 2 ends to draw 8-8.
In the second session Kent won 3 mats. They all won easily in the pairs with
Barbara Buse (Hornhill) and Ray Offord (Tunbury) winning 18-7 and Maureen
Staple (Ditton) and Dave Kruse (Burham) winning 19-7. The triples of Rita
Manfield (Tunbury), Roy Piles (Eastling) and Ray Ryder (Tunbury) won 21-8.
The third session went well, Kent winning all the mats. In the singles
Frank Davis won again, 19-12 and John Rider (St. Mary’s Platt) also won
16-12. In the fours John Bown, Pat Finnis, Alan Ellis and Albert Walker
won 9-6 and Jan Davey, Garry Cook, Keith Williams and Gavin Knight won 10-7.
In the last session Kent won 3 mats. In the pairs Barbara Buse and Ray
Offord won 14-9 and Maureen Staple and Dave Kruse also won 14-9. In
the triples Jane Williams (Ryarsh), Danny Cosgree (Borden) and Ray Sedge
(Snodland) won 11-4.
The final score was Essex 7 points (138 shots) Kent “B” 33 points (206
shots).
Kent 'B' v Surrey - 7th
January 2012
Kent 'B' won a close match against Surrey at Snodland.
Kent got off to a good start in the first session winning 3 mats. In the
singles Frank Davis (Chalk) won well, 19-7 and Ray Offord (Snodland),
making his debut in the singles, also won well, 20-6. In the pairs Maureen
Staple (Ditton) and Ray Sedge (Snodland) won comfortable, 17-11.
The second session went even better, winning 3 and drawing 1 mat. In
the triples Rita Manfield (Tunbury), Terry Desmond (Hempstead Valley) and Ray
Ryder (Tunbury) were 10-7 after 9 ends, then dropped 3
shots in the last 2 ends, drawing 10-10. Rita Horn (Culverstone), Gordon
Elliott (Joydens Wood) and Tony Horn (Culverstone) won easily, 14-6. In the
fours, Margaret Marshall (Ryarsh), Jean Desmond (Hempstead Valley), Alan Ellis
(Tunbury) and Albert Walker (Eastling) had a close game. Kent were
4-7 down after 6 ends then picked up 4 shots on the next end to be leading
8-7. On the 8th end Surrey picked up 1 shot to tie the game 8-8
before Kent just pinched it, getting 1 shot on the last end to win 9-8. Ann
Lester (Chalk), Roy Toms (Balfour), Barry Baker (St Mary’s Platt) and Bryan
Smith (Shorne) also had a close game. After 6 ends Kent were 6-10 down,
then on the next end they picked up 5 shots to lead 11-10. On the 8th
end Surrey picked up 2 shots to regain the lead 11-12 and on the last end Kent
picked up 3 shots to win 14-12.
Kent didn't do very well in the third session only winning 1 mat. In the
singles the excellent Frank Davis had another good win, 17-8.
The fourth session honours were even, winning 2 mats each. The triples players
Rita Manfield, Terry Desmond and Ray Ryder won easily 17-4 and in the
fours Margaret Marshall, Jean Desmond, Alan Ellis and Albert Walker had
another close game. After 7 ends it was 5-5, on the next end Kent picked
up 2 shots to lead 7-5, before Surrey took 1 shot on the last end to
leave Kent winning by 7-6.
It was a good job Kent got off to such a good start in the first 2
sessions as Surrey had an excellent last two sessions.
The final score was Kent 'B' 24 points (191 shots) Surrey 16
points (164 shots).
Kent “B” v
London - 3rd December 2011
Kent “B” had an excellent win against London at Snodland.
Kent made a good start by winning 2 and drawing 1 mat in the first session.
In the singles John Rider (St Mary’s Platt) won 12-7 and in the pairs Jan Davey
(Burham) and Ray Offord (Tunbury) drew 10-10 after being 8-10 down going into
the last end, where they picked up 2 shots. Maureen and Roger Staple (Ditton)
won 14-10.
It was 2 mats each in the second session. In the triples, Rita Manfield
(Tunbury), Terry Desmond (Hempstead Valley) and Albert Walker (Eastling) won
10-7 and in the fours John Bown (Hornhill), Jean Desmond (Hempstead Valley),
Roy Piles (Eastling) and Ray Sedge (Snodland) won 8-5.
Going into the third session Kent had 9 points and London 7. London then
only won 2 mats in the last two sessions. In the singles John
Rider carried on from the first session, winning comfortably 20-8 and Frank
Davis (Chalk) also won comfortably 16-7. In the pairs Jan Davey and
Ray Offord made it a hat-trick of good wins, winning 16-7.
In the last session the triples of Rita Manfield, Terry Desmond and Albert
Walker had another good win, 15-8 and Barbara Buse (Hornhill), Danny Cosgree
(Borden) and Brian Smith (Shorne) won 16-13. In the fours John Bown, Terry
Desmond, Roy Piles and Ray Sedge won a close game 8-6.
Kent took all the bonus points except for the fours.
The final score was Kent “B” 27 points (178 shots) London 13 points (153
shots).
Surrey v Kent “B” - 19th
November 2011
Kent “B” won a close match away to Surrey.
Kent started well by winning 3 mats in the first session. In the singles Frank Davis
(Chalk) won 17-14 and John Rider (St. Mary’s Platt) won 18-14. In the
pairs Gavin Knight (Borden) and Ray Offord (Snodland) had an
excellent win, 21-9 and Maureen and Roger Staple (Ditton) were unlucky to
loose. They were 12-7 up after 12 ends, then lost
7 shots on the last 3 ends, losing 12-14.
The second session didn't go to well, only winning 1 mat and drawing one other.
The triple of Jane Williams (Ryarsh), Barbara Buse (Hornhill) and Ray Ryder
(Tunbury) were 7 each after 9 ends, then on the last 2 ends won 1 shot each to
draw 8-8. In the fours, John Bown (Hornhill), Jean Desmond (Hempstead
Valley), Keith Williams (Ryarsh) and Jim Davey (Tunbury) won 9-7.
The third session went the same as the first session, winning 3
mats. Both the singles won again, Frank Davis won 14-6 and John Rider
winning 14-9. In the pairs Maureen and Roger Staple won 16-11.
Going into the last session the score was Surrey 9 points, Kent
19 points. Surrey had to win 4 mats + bonus points to win and Kent just
needed to win 1 mat. It was touch and go,
Kent lost the 2 triples and 1 of the fours with the fours team consisting
of John Bown, Terry Desmond, Keith Williams and Jim Davey having a tight game.
Kent were 9-8 up going into the last end, Jim Davey had the last bowl of
the match with Surrey holding 1 shot, which would make the match result
20pts each. Kent had 2 second woods, Jim bowled
and took their wood out to win 11-8.
The single players won the match for Kent by winning all their mats plus
the bonus points = 10 points.
The final score was Surrey 19 points (170 shots),
Kent “B” 21 points (181 shots).
Kent 'B' v West Sussex - 6th
November 2011
Kent 'B' lost their first match of the season against West
Sussex where they were comprehensively beaten at Strood.
Kent got off to a good start in the first session winning 3 mats. In the
singles Dave Kruse (Burham) won easily 16-9 and in the pairs Gavin Knight
(Borden) and Ray Sedge (Snodland) had a close game. It was 12-12 after 13 ends, they picked up 4 shots on the 14th end,
16-12, then dropped 1 shot on the last end, winning 16-13. Maureen and Roger
Staple (Ditton) also had a close game, after 11 ends they were coasting,
leading 13-7, then in the next 3 ends they dropped 9 shots, 13-16, on the
last end they were holding 3 shots and Roger drew in for the 4th
shot, winning 17-16.
In the second session Kent won 1 and drew 1 mat. In the triples
Barbara Buse (Hornhill), Roy Piles (Eastling) and Ray Ryder (Tunbury) had a
tight
game, after 8 ends it was 9-9, on the next 2 ends they picked up 2 shots,
11-9, but on the last end they dropped 2 shots, drawing 11-11. Brian Rust
(Harrietsham), Terry Desmond (Hempstead Valley) and Percy Boozer (Burham) had
the best win of the day, winning 15-5.
The third session was a disaster, losing every mat.
The last session wasn't much better, only winning 1 mat. In the
fours Kent nearly lost that, John Bown (Hornhill), Terry Desmond
(Hempstead Valley), Roy Toms (Balfour) and Danny Cosgree (Borden) were 8-8
after 7 ends, then dropped 1 shot, 8-9 and on the last end they picked up 2
shots, winning 10-9.
The final score was Kent 'B' 13 points (154 shots); West Sussex 27 points
(205 shots).
Kent “A” v West Sussex – 6th November 2011
The last game of
2011 and Kent had, as usual, to fight for points against their old rivals West
Sussex.
The first Session
went badly for Kent, only winning one mat out of four.
The second session
Kent reversed things around by winning three mats out of four.
Kent continued
their winning ways in the third session again winning three mats out of four.
In the final
session Kent held on with two wins and a draw to win the game.
Final score: Kent
23 pts; 193 shots, West Sussex 17 pts; 161 shots.
Now everyone is looking forward to
Christmas and the New Year when we meet West Sussex on the 8th January 2012 in
Sussex to decide who will top the group. GOOD LUCK KENT “A”.
Kent 'B' v Essex - 30th October
2011
Kent 'B' had an emphatic win against London at Strood.
The first session went Kent’s way winning 3 mats. In the singles Dave
Kruse (Burham) had a convincing win 15-5 and in the pairs Gavin Knight
(Borden) and Ray Offord (Snodland) won 19-12 and Maureen and Roger Staple
(Ryarsh) had a comfortable win 15-8.
In the second session Kent won all the mats. In the triples John Rider (St
Mary’s Platt), Terry Desmond (Hempstead Valley) and Ray Ryder (Tunbury) won
convincingly 14-7 and Ann Lester (Chalk), Rita Horn (Culverstone) and Frank
Davis (Chalk) won 11-8. In the fours Garry Cook (Malling), Barbara Buse
(Hornhill), Roy Piles (Eastling) and Alan Ellis (Tunbury) won well 12-3 and
Rita Manfield (Tunbury), Jean Desmond (Hempstead Valley), Danny Cosgree
(Borden) and Ray Sedge (Snodland) won 13-8.
Kent won 3 mats in the third session. In the singles Tony Horn
(Culverstone) won 18-11 and in the pairs Gavin Knight and Ray Offord had
another good win 18-9. The other pair of Maureen and Roger Staple also had
another good win 17-10.
In the last session it was 2 mats each. In the triples Ann
Lester, Rita Horn and Frank Davis won again, 16-5 and in the fours
Rita Manfield, Jean Desmond, Danny Cosgree and Ray Sedge also won, 13-10.
The final score was Kent 'B' 32 points (219 shots); Essex 8
points (150 shots).
London v Kent “B” - 16th October
2011
Kent “B” team carried on their good start to the season by winning
comprehensively away to London.
Kent did not get off to a good start by only winning 1 mat in the first
session, the pair of Gavin Knight (Borden), new badge and Ray Offord (Snodland) winning
easily 19-9.
In the second session Kent did better by winning all the mats. In the triples
Rita Manfield (Tunbury), Ray Offord and Ray Sedge (Snodland) won 11-6 and
Margaret Marshall (Ryarsh), Danny Cosgree (Borden) and Ray Ryder (Tunbury) had
an excellent win 14-5. In the fours Garry Cook (Malling), Peter Jones (Burham),
Barry Baker (St Mary’s Platt) and Albert Walker (Eastling) won 9-4, and John
Bown and Barbara Buse (Hornhill), Roy Toms (Balfour) and Trixie Jones
(Burham) won 10-7.
Kent did well in the third session, winning 3 mats. Dave Kruse (Tunbury) had a
good win 19-9 and Frank Davis (Chalk) had a close game. He was 11-11 after 13
ends, then scored 1 on the next end and lost 2 shots on the last end to lose
12-13. In the pairs Gavin Knight and Ray Offord had another good win,
24-8 and Maureen and Roger Staple (Ditton) had a close win, 13-12.
In the last session it was 2 mats each. In the triples Rita Manfield,
Roger Staple and Ray Sedge had a close game, they were 12-6 up after 9 ends,
then dropped 4 shots, 12-10 then picked up 1 shot on the last end, winning
13-10. Margaret Marshall, Danny Cosgree and Ray Ryder also had a close
game, they were 5-9 down after 8 ends, then picked up 3 shots on the last
3 ends, losing 8-9. In the fours Garry Cook, Peter Jones, Barry Baker
and Albert Walker had a good win 12-2.
The final score was London 12 points (154 shots) Kent “B” 28 Points (207
shots).
Kent “A” v East Sussex – 16th October 2011
This match was the return leg with East
Sussex. The first session went all Kent’s way with wins on all mats. The
outstanding game was Alan Faulkner’s 32–3 win in the singles.
The second session also went Kent’s way,
again winning all 4 mats. The best win being Chris Groom, Frank Wiedeholz and
Martin Matthews 21–6 win the triples.
Kent relaxed a little in the third session
winning only 3 out of the 4 mats. The singles still had a good day with Roy
Palmer winning 21–5 and Alan Faulkner winning 22–7.
Again in the last
session mats were shared.
Final score: Kent
32 pts; 237 shots, East Sussex 8 points; 130 shots.
Kent “B”
v East Sussex – Saturday 8 October 2011
Kent “B” had a convincing win against East Sussex at
Snodland.
Kent got off to
a good start in the first session winning 3 mats. In the singles Frank
Davis (Chalk) won comfortably, 17-9, as did Dave Kruse (Burham) 19-10.
In the pairs Ann Lester (Chalk), a new badge and Ray Offord (Snodland) won
a tight game 13-11 and Maureen and Roger Staple (Ditton) had a close game. They
were 11-11 after 12 ends then lost the next 2 ends, losing 4 shots,
to be 11-15 down. The Kent pair then picked up 2 shots on the last end
to lose 13-15.
In the second
session Kent won all 4 mats. Both the triples won easily, Brian Rust
(Harrietsham), Tony Drew (Chalk) and Bryan Smith (Shorne) won 17-4
and Margaret Marshall (Ryarsh), Danny Cosgree (Borden) and Ray Sedge
(Snodland) won 18-1, losing 1 shot on the last end.
In the fours
Rita Manfield (Tunbury), Roy Piles (Eastling), Terry Desmond (Hempstead
Valley) and Alan Ellis (Tunbury) won 21-3 and Garry Cook (Malling), Jean
Desmond (Hempstead Valley), Albert Walker (Eastling) and Ray Ryder (Tunbury)
had a closer game, winning 13-10.
It was 2 mats
each in the third session, only winning in the pairs. Ann Lester and Ray
Offord won 15-9 and Roger and Maureen Staple made up for the first session by
winning 28-3.
The last
session went the same as the second session, winning all 4 mats. In the
triples, Margaret Marshall, Danny Cosgree, and Ray Sedge won 18-7 and
Brian Rust, Tony Drew and Bryan Smith won 20-5. In the fours Rita
Manfield, Roy Piles, Terry Desmond and Alan Ellis won 10-5 and Garry Cook,
Terry Desmond, Albert Walker and Ray Ryder won 7-5.
The final score
was Kent “B” 32 points (248 shots), East
Sussex 8 points (134 shots).
East Sussex v Kent “A” – Saturday 8 October 2011
Kent ‘A’ started
off the season with an away game to East Sussex on 8/10/11.
In the 1st session Kent came out
top winning 3 mats out of 4 with a 25–7 win for Roy Palmer and a 18–9 win for Alan Faulkner. The other win was the pair of
Maureen Richards and Joanne Nobbs 13-10.
In the second
session Kent won all 4 mats putting them in a comfortable position at lunch.
The third session
also went to Kent, again winning 3 mats out of 4.
In the last session
it was evens, both teams winning 2 mats.
The final score
being: East Sussex 14 pts; 152 shots, Kent 26 pts; 174 shots.
East
Sussex v Kent “B” – Saturday 1 October 2011
Kent 'B'
Team won there opening match of the season away to East Sussex.
In the first session honours were even, winning 2 mats each. Both the singles
won their mats, Jim Davey (Burham) 20-5 and Tony Horn (Culverstone) 19-13. The
pair of Maureen and Roger Staple (Ditton) were
unlucky, they were 10-9 up after 11 ends then dropped 4 shots to 2 shots in the
last 4 ends, losing 12-14.
In the second session Kent only won 1 mat. In the triples of Peter Jones
(Burham), Roy Piles and Albert Walker (Eastling) won 13-6. The triples of
Barbara Buse (Hornhill) Roy Toms (Balfour) and Ray Sedge (Snodland) were
winning 11-10 after 9 ends then dropped 5 shots on the next end, managed
to pick up 3 shots on the last end but lost 14-15.
The third session went Kent’s way, winning 3 mats. In the singles Tony Horn won
12-10 and in the pairs Jan Davey (Burham) and Ray Offord (Tunbury) won 14-6 and
Maureen Staple and Roger Staple (Ditton) won 16-8.
Going into the last session Kent needed 6 points to win and they just did
it, winning 2 mats and getting 2 bonus points in the triples. The triples
players Barbara Buse, Roy Toms and Ray Sedge won 16-5 and the fours players
John Rider (St Mary Platt), Jean Desmond (Hempstead Valley), Pat Finnis
(Tovil) and Alan Ellis (Tunbury) won 10-8.
The final score was East Sussex 18 points (169 shots),
Kent ‘B’ 22 points (199 shots).
