Inter County Premier Championships Finalists 1997.

The following extracts have been taken from Short Mat International published in September/October 1997.

Both Kent and Staffordshire have been former Premier Champions, Staffordshire won the first ever Championship final in 1993 and Kent won in 1995. The stage was therefore set for a great battle, with Staffordshire as the pre match favourites.

In the first session Tim Rycraft and Jody Frampton both lost their singles matches and it was left to David Smith and Bert Allard to score Kent's only points with an impressive 18 - 8 win. In the second session Kent again only won one game with Struthers Brown, Jim & Pat Gittens winning 11 - 6. The third session saw Kent bounce back winning three of the four games and the match stood at 14 - 10 (152 shots - 132 shots) to Staffordshire. Kent could only win one of the remaining fours in the last session and Staffordshire run out winners 24 - 12 (205 shots - 156 shots).
