On Sunday 18th December the 2011/12 Bert
Allard Under 25 & Under 18 event took place in
West Malling Village Hall. Players from West Malling, Ryarsh, Stockbury and
Hawkinge all took part. Sadly 3 players from Balfour had to pull out at the
last moment. A tight fair fight ensued with a round robin involving all 5 entrants
taking place. All the players played each other over 11 ends with a very close
series of games taking place. The bowling standard was excellent.
In the under 18s Joshua Cockett won the day in a
tight game versus Danny Hogben, after 8 ends it was
11 points each. When they played the final end Joshua led by a single shot; he
held on in a tight last end and took a single shot to beat Danny by two.
In the under 25s 4 players were all in a
position to win with one game to play. Danny Hogben
played Chris Bull and ran out a very creditable 17-8 winner. Carol played Jason
Smith knowing that if she could secure a win she would be this years under 25's
winner (as she was the only player to win 3 games); after a tight game she
managed to hold on to a 10-8 victory. The victory by Danny meant he was also
the runner up in the under 25s as well as the under 18s.
A very bright bowling future seems to be
likely for all our juniors. I hope to see them all on the mat soon.
I would like to thank West Malling SMBC for their kind hospitality and to Sonia
Watson for helping run this event (her cakes were well received). A big thank
you also must be extended to Kitty Cook for holding the kitchen together for us
all as well.
I hope from this excellent days bowling we can kick start our juniors once
again into competing and playing as they are our bowling future
